Let's get together and celebrate our Taranaki harvest!
In the olden days, when the last hay and corn has been cut the
whole village would come together to join into a big celebration that
lasts into the early hours. After the hard months of working on the
fields and farms men and women would then swap their
work clothes for shirts and colourful dresses and enjoy the fruits of
their labour together.
Hay and flowers decorated the dance floor where Morris dancers were
joined by the young and old. Tables loaded with all varieties of baked
and cooked sweet and savoury dishes and the smell of a pig roasting on a
spit is filling the air.
We would like to invite you to revive this old European tradition with us and join
our first Taranaki Harvest Feast!S
Together with our vibrant community we have planned a day of family
activities, entertainment, dance and lots and lots of food and drinks.
A special thanks to the Young Farmers association, the Lions Club,
the Swiss Club, the Morris Dancers, Parihaka, our local kindergarten and
the community of Okato.
After the Taranaki Christkindl Christmas market we have included
the neighbouring paddocks to host our market stalls, entertainment and
onwards parking supervision organized by the Lions Club (gold coin donation).
